Article IV Membership (from IAD Bylaws Edition Nov 3, 2017)
(b) Qualifications for membership and associated membership rights for each class of members are as follows:
(1) Fellows. Members in this class shall be limited to physicians duly licensed in the State of Indiana, whose practice or professional activities are limited to dermatology, dermatopathology, and/or dermatologic surgery. A fellow must have been board-certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology, the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology, or a non-U.S. Board. Fellows shall pay dues and assessments and have full membership rights, including the right to participate in discussions, to vote, to hold office, and to serve on committees.
(2) Associate members. Associate members shall be limited to physicians duly licensed in the State of Indiana and who have completed an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (“ACGME”) -accredited dermatology residency program and are qualified to take the examination of the American Board of Dermatology. Associate members shall pay dues and assessments and enjoy all privileges of Fellows, except that they shall not hold elective office.
(3) Affiliate members. Affiliate members shall be limited to physicians duly licensed in the State of Indiana and who meet the following criteria: a board-certified pathologist with subspecialty board certification in dermatopathology who is not eligible to be a fellow or associate. Affiliate members shall pay dues and assessments and shall enjoy all privileges of Fellows, except that they shall not hold elective office.
(4) Lifetime members. Lifetime members are former fellow, associate, or affiliate members who have been members for ten years or more and who have fully retired from the active practice of medicine. Dues and assessments are not paid by these members. Lifetime members shall enjoy all privileges of Fellows, except that they shall not vote or hold elective office. They may continue as lifetime members until membership is terminated as outlined in these Bylaws.
(5) Graduate members. A physician who is a resident in training at an ACGME-accredited dermatology residency program in Indiana or a board-certified or board-eligible dermatologist in fellowship training within the state of Indiana shall be eligible to be a graduate member. These members shall be exempt from all dues and assessments, may attend business meetings, may serve on a committee as a graduate member, but shall not vote or hold office.
(6) Adjunct members. Adjunct membership pertains to American Board of Dermatology or American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology certified physicians who do not reside in Indiana, but are in active practice or training in dermatology, dermatologic surgery, or dermatopathology and wish to participate in IAD. These members shall pay dues and assessments, shall enjoy all privileges of Fellows, except they shall not vote or hold elective office.
(7) Honorary Members. These members should have significantly contributed to dermatology in Indiana. These members do not pay dues and assessments, but retain rights and privileges of active members, except that they may not vote, hold office, or serve on a committee. The honorary member shall maintain this status indefinitely until membership is terminated as outlined in Article VI.
Application/Election to Membership
(a) An applicant for membership shall complete an official IAD membership application form, endorsed by one Fellow member of IAD. The application must be approved by the Board of Directors.
(b) Lifetime members may be elected as a Lifetime member by the Board of Directors.
(c) Honorary members may be nominated by any member in good standing and the nomination approved by the Board of Directors. The President or Vice-President shall then present the nominee at any membership meeting of IAD. Election of the nominee to honorary member status shall require an affirmative vote of voting members present and representing a quorum.
(d) Members that are classified in any of IAD’s membership classes that are required to pay dues and assessments shall be for renewable annual terms (after initial application and election under this Article V) that shall be automatically renewed each year, unless any dues and assessments for the member remain outstanding as of July 1st of the applicable year and without adequate explanation of the nonpayment provided by the member, which the adequacy of the explanation shall be at the sole discretion of the Board of Directors. Upon payment of dues and assessments, a member may be reinstated by the affirmative vote of the Board of Directors.
